The proposed merger of Orange and T-Mobile is still to be finally confirmed, however Bristol is expecting to hear that Britain’s largest mobile phone operator is to be created this week from the merger of the two companies.

 There has been discussion in the last few weeks that the merger could be further delayed or even blocked by the UK’s business watchdog.  However there has been further coverage in the Daily Telegraph today that highlights the merger is currently moving forward and will be granted regulatory approval.

The merger will no doubt come as a blow to many of the Bristol 2,200 Orange employees as there are certain to be cuts across the workforce.

A taskforce has been set up to assist those employees who may face the threat of redundancy.  That said, with the increased and growing confidence that there is, in the current job market place in Bristol and the South-West, there will be more opportunities available to these employees who have the advantage of a major multinational brand name on their CV’s.
